Travel Guidelines to Rourkela

✈️ By Air
The city is served by the Rourkela Airport, which operates limited domestic flights. For broader connectivity, visitors may prefer nearby major airports such as Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda (approximately 120 km), Birsa Munda Airport at Ranchi (around 140–165 km), Swami Vivekananda Airport at Raipur (approximately 420 km), and Biju Patnaik International Airport at Bhubaneswar (about 240–340 km). These airports are well-connected to major Indian metros such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. From these airports, Rourkela can be reached conveniently by taxi, bus, or train.

For international travellers, it is advisable to arrive at major international hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, or Kolkata, and then take a domestic flight to one of the above airports.

Rourkela is an important railway hub on the Howrah–Mumbai main line. The Rourkela Junction Railway Station (ROU) is well connected to major cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, through regular express and superfast trains.

Rail travel is one of the most convenient and economical options, with frequent services linking Rourkela to all parts of India.

Rourkela has good road connectivity via national and state highways. Regular bus services operated by state transport and private operators connect the city to nearby urban centers such as Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Sambalpur, and Kolkata.
